Orbital GTAW automates the movement of the tungsten electrode around a stationary tube joint. Once the joint preparation, purge conditions and welding schedule are established, the system controls the weld cycle to provide greater consistency from joint to joint.
Fortis uses programmable orbital welding equipment suited to stainless steel tubing and thin-wall piping applications. Our AMI Model 217 power supply provides programmable GTAW control and weld-data recording capability and is designed for use with AMI orbital fusion weld heads. AMI identifies applications for this platform including food, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical and other high-integrity tubing systems.
Orbital welding capability for a wide range of stainless steel tube sizes from 1/8" through 4".
Precision autogenous GTAW for controlled and repeatable circumferential tube welds.
Welding solutions for 304L and 316L stainless steel tubing used in high-integrity process systems.
Orbital welding for sanitary and hygienic tubing systems where clean internal surfaces are important.
Controlled internal argon purging to support clean, consistent weld conditions.
Programmable welding schedules help control current, pulse rate, travel and weld timing.
Weld-data recording capability supports process monitoring and project documentation requirements.
Precision tube preparation and alignment to support consistent orbital welding results.
Mobile orbital welding capability for suitable field installation and project requirements.
Inspection support for visual and applicable internal weld quality checks following orbital welding operations.
Programmable welding schedules help control variables such as current, pulse rate, travel and weld timing throughout the weld cycle.
Automated electrode travel can help produce consistent circumferential welds when joint fit-up, preparation and purge conditions are properly controlled.
Orbital GTAW allows welding parameters to be programmed to suit the tubing material and wall thickness.
Closed-head orbital welding is particularly useful for applications where minimizing contamination and maintaining a clean internal piping surface are priorities.
We primarily work with 304/304L and 316/316L stainless steel in pipe, tube, fittings and related components. Material selection is based on the process service, corrosion requirements, customer specifications and applicable project requirements.
Yes. Fortis provides orbital GTAW welding capabilities for stainless steel tubing used in sanitary, hygienic and high-purity applications. Orbital welding offers programmable weld parameters and repeatable weld cycles for applications where consistent internal weld quality and cleanliness are important.
Fortis supports stainless steel piping projects involving ASME B31.3 Process Piping and ASME B31.1 Power Piping requirements, where applicable to the project scope. Our applicable stainless steel welding procedure qualification and TSSA registration activities are currently in progress. Project-specific code and regulatory requirements are reviewed before fabrication begins.
Depending on project requirements, Fortis can provide or coordinate dimensional inspection, visual weld inspection, material traceability, MTR documentation, weld maps, pressure or leak testing, fabrication drawings, piping isometrics and as-built documentation.
